TASTING NOTES

Truchard Cabernet Sauvignon is a delicious complex nose of plum, cherry and cassis; with a touch of cedar wood and vanilla. There are flavours of raspberry, redcurrant and plum jam. Ripe tannins provide a lengthy finish.

The Truchard Estate Vineyard is located in the Carneros region of the Napa Valley and are early pioneers of American Wine. It is 400 acres of hills and valleys, which contain a variety of soils: clay, shale, sandstone, limestone, volcanic ash and rock. The combination of terrain, geology, and marine-moderated temperatures, provides conditions well suited for wine-growing.

Cabernet Sauvignon is planted in various sites – on steep, southwest- facing hillsides. The vines range from 19 to 41 years old, and produce wines that are deep in color, dominated by lush flavours of plum, berry, and spice.

The original Truchard winery was not in California but in Texas. Founded in 1887 by French brothers Jean-Marie and Anthony Truchard it lasted until the 1920s when Prohibition dried up all sales. The winemaking gene skipped a generation, resurfacing in the 1970s with Jean-Marie’s grandson, Tony.

Over the last four decades, Tony has expanded the estate to some 280ha and in 1989, the family released the first wine under their own label. Today, alongside his parents, Anthony Truchard works incessantly and passionately to maintain the integrity of his family’s wines and loves sharing them with the world.
