Pulenta Estate Bodega La Flor Malbec, Mendoza, Argentina
Fresh raspberry aromas complement Malbec’s trademark floral violet notes on the nose. The palate is round and soft, with gentle tannins to complement the fresh red and black fruit flavours and just a hint of vanilla, liquorice and spice on the finish.
Pulenta Estate was founded in 2002 by brothers Hugo and Eduardo Pulenta, fourth-generation winemakers, with the goal of translating their family legacy and their father ́s pioneering spirit into a modern, innovative winery focused on producing limited quantities of great wines. They have quickly carved out a reputation for precise, elegant wines across a range of varieties and premium price points. The estate consists of two vineyards located in key areas of Mendoza: Finca La Zulema in Agrelo and Viñedos Don Antonio in Los Arboles, a district of the Uco Valley. These contrasting vineyards have complex alluvial soils and distinct altitudes which, when blended, help give Pulenta wines their distinctive style, combining finesse, silky texture and elegance with the typical power and depth of fruit that is expected of Argentinian wines.
The grapes come from both Finca La Zulema and Viñedos Don Antonio vineyards where the alluvial soils allow for good drainage and deep roots. The grapes were harvested by hand.
Following a two-day cold maceration on the skins, fermentation took placelin a mix of stainless steel and concrete tanks at 25-28 ̊C with 10% French oak. Closed and open pump-overs were used throughout fermentation, followed by a post-fermentation maceration of around fifteen days. Spontaneous malolactic fermentation took place in concrete and the wine was then aged in second and third-fill French oak barrels for 4-6 months.
