Producer

Engineer Edmund James Palmer Norton arrives in Argentina in 1895 to help build a railway across the Andes and falls in love with the terroir of Mendoza. Making a dramatic change, he decided to found his own vineyard in Luján de Cuyo with vines imported from France.

In 1989, Austrian businessman Gernot Langes-Swarovski is bowled over by the beauty of Mendoza and sees the potential in developing Argentinian wines. He decides to buy Bodega Norton, the region´s only traditional winery surrounded by its own vines.

Under Michael Halstrick, Gernot Langes-Swarovski´s son, a new era begins at the vineyard, with investment and expansion making Bodega Norton one of the first wineries to develop an export market.

Bodega Norton has five vineyards spread over the main terroirs of the province of Mendoza, foothills of the Andes Mountains, all of them within a privileged zone known as the First Zone for the quality of its grapes. It is not just geographical location that influences the quality of our wines, but the age of our vines. Their average age is around 30 years, but we also have a large number of hectares planted with more than 80-year-old.

Looking for a way to better reflect the quality wines and expertise that Bodega Norton represents, not to mention its family-spirited team of workers, the winery takes a new direction with its brand in 2017. An image overhaul sees new bottles sporting a special signature to celebrate Bodega Norton´s long history as a pioneer of Argentinian wines. The handwritten phrase ´Signature Winemaking´ will denote the quality and heritage of Bodega Norton, inspired by Edmund Norton himself and continued for more than 125 years.
