WHY YOU’LL LOVE THIS WINE

This is a standout Sauvignon Blanc from one of South Africa’s oldest and most distinguished estates. Grown on cool, ocean-influenced slopes in the heart of historic Constantia, Buitenverwachting’s Sauvignon Blanc is consistently praised for its purity, texture and restraint. The wine offers a refreshingly dry profile with remarkable intensity — an excellent choice for fans of Marlborough or Sancerre looking for something equally expressive but uniquely South African.

Extended Taste Notes

The wine opens with lifted aromatics of grapefruit zest, cut grass, and white peach, followed by layers of green fig, gooseberry and lime leaf.

The palate is sleek and mineral-driven, with a crisp line of acidity that frames the fruit beautifully. Subtle lees ageing adds weight and texture, giving it a gentle creaminess behind the freshness.

The finish is long, dry, and stony — a precise and polished Sauvignon Blanc that shows superb typicity and elegance.

Producer

This beautiful farm on the east-facing slopes of the magnificent Constantiaberg and barely 12km from False Bay, originally formed part of the Constantia Estate, which was founded by Simon van der Stel, the first Governor of the new Dutch colony at the tip of Africa.

The South African wine industry has had many changes of fortune in the three centuries since, but this historic estate remains, divided now between five wineries. Buitenverwachting, meaning ‘beyond expectation’, belongs to the Mueller family, who have lovingly restored both its buildings and its reputation as a source of particularly elegant South African wine.
